In 2009, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class got an updated interior, including heated and ventilated front seats, multi-contour front-passenger seat and audio head unit. A four-door, five-passenger luxury SUV, the G-Class adds to its lineup a 382-hp G550 and a 500-hp G55, as well as a 30th anniversary edition. The G500 is powered by a 5.0L V8 engine that pumps out 292 hp and 336 lb-ft of torque, while the Mercedes G55 AMG is propelled by a supercharged 5.5L V8 engine packing 500 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. The G500 comes with a seven-speed automatic transmission, while the G55 AMG is equipped with a five-speed automatic. Standard is four-wheel drive with a two-speed transfer case controlled by a console-mounted switch. A capable off-road vehicle, the G Class is also able to tow 7,000 pounds. Standard safety equipment includes traction and stability control, antilock brakes, full-length side curtain airbags and rear parking sensors. Even with all of its power, the G-Class is surprisingly quiet on the highway.
